Netflix has revealed plans for an untitled film directed by Nicole Newnham, focusing on the life of the late star.
This documentary aims to capture 'the music, life, and magic of the beloved pop icon,' as stated in a press release. It will feature Olivia's own reflections, along with vivid archival footage and insights from her close friends and collaborators. The film will chronicle her rise to fame and the significant challenges she faced along the way.
The release describes it as 'the story of a woman who was often underestimated despite her extraordinary talent, ultimately overcoming immense loss and adversity with grace and gratitude.'
Produced by RJ Cutler and his company This Machine, known for projects like Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry and Elton John: Never Too Late, this documentary promises to be a heartfelt tribute.
Olivia Newton-John passed away from breast cancer in August 2022 at the age of 73.
Born in the UK in 1948, she relocated to Australia at the age of five. After winning a talent contest on Australian television, she began performing with Pat Farrar in their duo, Pat & Olivia. By 1971, she launched her solo career with two albums, If Not For You and Olivia.
Her acting career skyrocketed in 1978 with the musical film 'Grease,' where she starred alongside John Travolta.
Among her notable solo hits are the Grammy-winning 'I Honestly Love You' (1974) and 'Physical' (1981), which became Billboard's top Hot 100 single of the 1980s.
Throughout her career, Newton-John received numerous accolades, including four Grammy Awards, a Daytime Emmy Award, nine Billboard Music Awards, six American Music Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
